Monday Morning Prayer: Dew in the desert

A Thought  I was having a conversation with a friend about how deeply discouraged I felt and how I have had so many moments this year where I have lacked joy. Yet here I am writing, attempting to encourage you… My discouragement is more proof that God uses broken vessels for his glory. It’s been a long year. This is the last Monday of the year, and no matter the road that brought us here, it bears a thank you to the Lord for we made it here. In the book of Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream, and troubled he asked Daniel to interpret the dream. In the dream, Nebuchadnezzar is warned to walk away from his sin but he chooses not to, and this results in him losing his kingdom. Banished, he is driven from human society and lives in the fields with the wild animals, eats grass like a cow, and will be drenched with the dew of heaven. Eventually, the king returns to his senses and praises God, and his kingdom is restored. (Daniel 4) In his sin, King Nebuchadnezzar was still drenched in dew, a symbol of blessing, yet another reminder that God sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. (Matthew 5:45) An interesting thing is that dew is a natural occurrence of water or moisture in the air that settles in the cool of the night on the ground and can be felt on the plants.  Dew does form in the desert and forms a vital part of water access to plants growing in it. Dew is a grace, a mercy of moisture and sustenance in the desert. Wherever you find yourself, be is a season of great joy or the lack of it… Look for the dew.

A Scripture

The Lord says, “Then I will heal you of your faithlessness;     my love will know no bounds,     for my anger will be gone forever. I will be to Israel     like a refreshing dew from heaven. Israel will blossom like the lily;     it will send roots deep into the soil     like the cedars in Lebanon.  Its branches will spread out like beautiful olive trees,     as fragrant as the cedars of Lebanon. My people will again live under my shade.     They will flourish like grain and blossom like grapevines.     They will be as fragrant as the wines of Lebanon.

“O Israel,[c] stay away from idols!     I am the one who answers your prayers and cares for you. I am like a tree that is always green;     all your fruit comes from me.”

Hosea 14:4-8 (NLT)

A Prayer  Dear Lord, thank you for the rain. In this place, cover me with your dew even more and grant me the grace to see it. Lord, could you turn my heart towards you and away from sin. In Jesus’ name. Amen See you next week, Monday… Until then, be KIND.
