A Thought
We are but jars of clay… and the Lord chose to place His powerful Spirit within us. As fickle and susceptible to breaking as we are, He still chose us, loved us, and uses us.
Clay is moulded from the earth. It is created from dust, mixed with water, placed in heat, and shaped by its creator. Yet the one thing we must never forget is this: it is still just a jar. A jar that can break. A jar that will not outlast its maker. It can look beautiful. It can hold beautiful things. It can be placed in significant spaces and carry precious treasure but it is still clay.
I think it is sobering to understand the frailty of our lives. Even a long life is still short. The beautiful moments we are given are fleeting. When you truly grasp the fragility of your life, you begin to see differently with softer eyes and a deeper awareness that this life is temporary.
And yet, the God we serve chooses to fill these fragile jars with Himself. For the season we are on this earth, we walk, we talk, we laugh, we worship carrying His grace and mercy within us.
To remember: I am a jar of clay, yet He uses me as I am. All that I have, all that I go through, cracked and even in broken, I stand. And in this, I have hope. That hope is, and always will be, Jesus Christ.
A Scripture If you only look at us, you might well miss the brightness. We carry this precious Message around in the unadorned clay pots of our ordinary lives. That’s to prevent anyone from confusing God’s incomparable power with us. As it is, there’s not much chance of that. You know for yourselves that we’re not much to look at. We’ve been surrounded and battered by troubles, but we’re not demoralized; we’re not sure what to do, but we know that God knows what to do; we’ve been spiritually terrorized, but God hasn’t left our side; we’ve been thrown down, but we haven’t broken. What they did to Jesus, they do to us—trial and torture, mockery and murder; what Jesus did among them, he does in us—he lives! Our lives are at constant risk for Jesus’ sake, which makes Jesus’ life all the more evident in us. While we’re going through the worst, you’re getting in on the best!
-2 Corinthians 4:7-12 (MSG)
A Prayer
Lord, use this jar of clay. In Jesus’ name. Amen
See you next week, Monday…
Until then, be KIND.
