Monday Morning Prayer: Running away
A Thought
Have you ever wanted to run away, as big as you are, with all the responsibilities you carry, just run far where no one knows you and no one can hold you accountable? Well, I had that feeling, and I was reminded of this story my old principal, Mr Hoffman, told to our matric class, paraphrasing, but here it goes.
A man was travelling from one town to another he stopped at a petrol station and found an old petrol attendant and asked:
"Sir, do you know anything about the town that I am heading to?"
"Well, young man, how was the town you just came from?"
"Sir, what do you mean? What are you talking about?"
"However, the town you just came from was, that how the next one will be..."
In the running and escaping we often attempt, we forget that, though we run, we are the same person in this town and the next, in this situation or the next, in this relationship or the next. Change is possible, but it's a divine transformative work that we do with God and not alone - for it to mean something, we need to do it with God truly, or we risk gaining the world and losing our souls, and what use is that?
Often, we run because we refuse to fight, to stay in the thing, have it settled, and only move when the time is just right or when we have completed the tasks asked of us in each season.
A Scripture Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. -Romans 12:2 (NLT)
A Prayer
Lord, give me courage to run to you to run to your word and let it transform me to change this world.In Jesus’ name. Amen
