Monday Morning Prayer: Carried

A Thought

There is this story in the Bible about a prophetess named Deborah, who also happened to be the fourth Judge of pre-monarchic Israel. One of her roles as a judge entailed leading battles and governing. In her tenure, Israel was in battle, and she led a victorious fight with the help of faithful men and women. When the battle was over, her response was a song of worship: “Hear this, you kings! Listen, you rulers! I, even I, will sing to the Lord; I will praise the Lord, the God of Israel, in song.”

— Judges 5:3 (NIV) It is easy for us to forget that though God uses us it is still He that carries us through every battle. At the other side of our battles, regardless of the outcome, may we remember God. If we are still alive, that is the victory and perhaps a mercy too, in Deborah's case, not only were they victorious, but "the land had peace forty years.” — Judges 5:31 The thing about this story is that they still had to fight, but they were carried through by God.

A Scripture

Praise the Lord, my soul;

all my inmost being, praise his holy name.

Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—

who forgives all your sins

and heals all your diseases,

who redeems your life from the pit

and crowns you with love and compassion,

who satisfies your desires with good things

so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

— Psalm 103:1–5 (NIV)

A Prayer

Lord, I praise You for every battle, the ones I have walked out of, the ones I am in, and the ones I will walk into. Lead me into a life that brings You glory and praise, no matter the circumstance.

In Jesus’ name, Amen. See you next week, Monday…

Until then be KIND. ...Deborah’s story can be found in Judges 4–5.
